EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITY
Why activity?
Traditionally, Chinese students’ academic achievement means everything for the students and parents; they only focus on the students’ academic performance. Conversely, extracurricular activities are the thing that matters much to universities for students who will apply to western universities. Although academic is the key factor for university application, when students apply to university with the same academic results, the extracurricular activity may decide the application result sometimes.
Generally speaking, extracurricular activities refer to anything that students do outside the class. There are almost 70 student clubs in the school, choosing the right club to attend is the premier question for students. You are always encouraged to initiate your own activity if there is no such similar club you can join. Doing over 5 activities at the same time is definitely not the right way to develop personal ability. Student should develop a deeper commitment to the activity in a manageable number, which will help student to develop personal skills and ability, critical thinking on global issues and involve in community service. From university admission prospect, students should demonstrate their various abilities and interests through activities rather than pursuing a “perfect” activity list on application form.
